I have posted the city of WACONIA in the web page section.  I invite all interested citizens to log onto this site and take your time to look it over.  It is amazing the information they provide, including minutes, agendas and packets for all council meetings and the minutes for the other boards and committees.  They even have the minutes of the most recent council meeting on line within four days of the meeting.  Take a look at an agenda and you will see that they allow citizens to speak on the consent agenda items if they have an issue.  I experienced this problem some time back when the city clerk said that I spoke on one thing when I actually spoke on a different issue.  With this opportunity I could have asked for it to be corrected.  I had asked a councilman to offer a motion to correct the issue, but it seems like they are afraid to speak.  Like the other night when the mayor was making a fool of himself, anyone of the council person's could have called for the question, instead of embarrassing the whole council.  But then they don't operate under any rules, so maybe they don't know they can do that.  Getting off the subject here.  Please look over the Waconia web site and take some time to look at various parts of it.  Especially in the upper right corner, look over "A Guide to Living and Doing Business in Waconia.  It is fantastic!!

John,
I saw that exchange and was ASHAMED!! This is the mayor of a growing metropolis? A licensed psychologist??
All one needs to do is watch a series of council meetings on WRAC, and the internal alliances, the hidden agendas, the lack of willingness to actually manage this city become clear.
Look at the split over Westwood, a project that will be just that, a "project". Welcome to the new Regency twins...

bill h. There are two major problems on the Willmar City Council, Les Heitke and Ron Christianson. What is sad is that Mr. Christianson is somehow being made out to be the hero, and honestly believes that he can become Mayor in 2010 while his son takes his seat that same year!

anonymous,
I don't believe that. I happen to know several council members, including Ron, and the real falling out within the council happened over this Westwinds project. Ron's not a hero, certainly Les H. isn't one, nor is any other council member.
He'd tell you (because I've asked) you couldn't give him that job of mayor.
Ron could've benefited from a project that size (W-winds); he is, after all, a gen'l contractor. But he opposed it on very simple grounds. 93 properties already available in the city, some just needing a little cosmetic work, some more. But let Willmar fix those, move these folks in with some creative financing, and instant integration.
I agree with that approach. The council is just creating another project. I grew up south of Chicago...you ever seen real, live "projects"? You driven thru either of the Regencys lately? You really don't want that for Willmar, do you?

billh I was not aware that Westwinds was going to be multi story apartment complexe like the southside of Chicago, nor was I aware that they were preparing slabs for trailers to be brought in like Regency.

I also was not aware the the Westwinds project was only for minorities, it appears that this is what you believe to be true from your statement about integration. Perhaps you are believing this from the comment made by Mr. Christianson suggesting that Muslims were the target for this development, when in reality one of many financing vehicles that could be used is one that a Muslim person would choose to access. The entire project was designed for anyone regardless of race.

As for Mr. Christianson benefitng from Westwinds, how could that be unless he stopped it. Christianson Construction was not going to build any of the Westwinds projects, so for him to stand to gain would be if the projects would be stopped, which he as strongly attempted to do. Did he not once abstain from a vote due to conflict of interest? And bill did he not vote in favor of the project getting moved back in 2006?
